Lisa M Atkinson, ND:
Dr. Atkinson received a Doctorate of Naturopathy from the Trinity School of Natural Health and bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science/Sports Medicine from the University of Massachusetts. She is a Certified Natural Health Professional (CNHP), Medical Exercise Specialist with the American Academy of Health and Fitness Professionals., Master Fitness by Phone Coach through the Association of Fitness by Phone Coaches., Personal Trainer with the International Fitness Professionals Associations, and an Aerobics Instructor with AFAA. She is also recognized as an Elite Personal Fitness Trainer by IDEA.
Lisa has been a personal trainer since 1992 and concentrated in training individuals recovering from injuries. She was the Program Director of Club Julian Fitness Center in Pittsburgh, PA for 2 years and General Manger of Franklin Plaza Health Club of Washington, DC for 1-½ years. She helped develop a therapeutic exercise program for chiropractic patients at the Physicians Pain Relief Center of Augusta, GA and has designed Weight Management Programs and Weight training classes for many fitness facilities as well. She worked for over 2 years as the General Manager at Cypher Chiropractic Center in Sterling, VA. Lisa worked with Dr. Patricia Slusher, ND of Wellness Pathways Holistic Health where she was mentored and learned the art of Naturopathy. Dr. Slusher encouraged her to go back to school and get her Doctorate of Naturopathy.
Since opening A Better Way to Fitness in January of 2000, Lisa has dedicated her practice to educating her clients about the design of the body and that the body has the ability to heal itself if given the right tools, whether those tools are nutrition, homeopathy, exercise or a combination. Her philosophy is to help her patients understand how to tune into what their body needs to be well and help them design a program that will work for them.
