Treatment:

The best way to relieve tennis elbow is to stop doing anything that irritates your arm.  Massage to relieve stress and tension in the muscles, and exercise to strengthen the area and prevent reinjury.  Taking anti-inflamatory medications can also bring releif.

For stubborn cases, your doctor may advise corticosteriod injections, which dramatically reduce inflammation.  These cannot be used long-term, however, because of potentially damaging side effects.

Surgery can be performed, as a last resort, though this form of treatment is rear (fewer than 3% of patients).

Other Ailments:

There are 2 other conditions that are often mistaken for Tennis Elbow:   Golfer's Elbow and Bursitis.  Golfer's Elbow is similar to tennis elbow, but pain and tenderness are felt on the inside of the elbow, on or around the joint's bony prominence.  Bursitis is pain or tenderness on back of the elbow, or the tip of the elbow.  A Bursea is a fluid filled sac that helps cushion the elbow, and other body parts.  Bursitis is often caused by excessive leaning on the joint or a direct fall or blow to the back of the elbow.  A lump can often be seen and the elbow is painful at the back of the joint.

Treatment for these 2 ailments is similar to Tennis elbow, especially rest.
