Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis)

Lateral Epicondylitis, otherwise known as Tennis Elbow, is recurring pain on the outside of the upper forearm just below the bend of the elbow; occasionally radiating down the arm toward the wrist.  This pain is caused by lifting or bending the arm or grasping objects.  This pain causes difficulty extending the forearm fully and typically lasts for 6 to 12 weeks.

Tennis Elbows occurs from overuse of the lateral tendon of the elbow, usually from backhands in racquet sports.  Hence the name Tennis Elbow.  This condition can also be caused from lifting and holding objects with arm bent, such as shopping bags.  Tiny tears incur in the tendon and muscle coverings.  These tears lead to hemorrhaging and the formation of rough, granulated tissue and calcium deposits within the surrounding tissues.  This results in inflammation, which can cut off the blood flow and pinch the radial nerve.
